Amir Khan will return to the ring against Colombia’s Samuel Vargas on September 8 in Birmingham, it was announced on Thursday.
The former world champion faces another tune-up opponent after his 39-second win over Phil Lo Greco, as he prepares for potential big bouts at the end of 2018.
So, who is Samuel Vargas?
Vargas is a 29-year-old Colombian welterweight who is based in in Toronto, Canada. He has fought the majority of his fights in Canada, as well as having two in Mexico, two in the US and one back in his homeland. He is an orthodox fighter who stand 5’9″ tall with a 72″ reach.
What is his boxing record?
He has a record of 29 wins (14 by KO), three losses and two draws. His three defeats came against Pablo Munguia (2013 UD), Errol Spence (2015 TKO4) and Danny Garcia (2016 TKO 7). The loss against wily, experienced veteran Munguia came as a shock to Vargas, as he was unbeaten until that point in his career. Munguia went on to lose to Phil Lo Greco two years later.
When was his last fight?
Samuel Vargas was most recently seen in a majority draw with Mauro Maximiliano Godoy on June 2.
What were his biggest fights?
By far the two biggest names on Vargas’ record are Errol Spence and Danny Garcia. Spence smashed through Vargas in four rounds while Garcia dropped him early before an eventual seventh round stoppage.
