The duo confirmed ‘The Match’ will take place in Las Vegas at the end of November
Golfing legends Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will do battle in a winner-takes-all $ 9m (£7m) exhibition match in Las Vegas.
The pair, widely considered the greatest golfers of their generation, confirmed the 18-hole event will take place at Shadow Creek Golf Course on 23 or 24 November.
The Americans share 19 major championship wins between them and have recently renewed their friendship after years of fierce rivalry.
Woods, 42, announced the contest on social media, saying: ‘It’s on’.
Mickelson, 48, responded saying: ‘I bet you think this is the easiest $ 9m you will ever make’.
It will round-off a remarkable comeback year for Woods, who admitted he thought he might never play golf again in 2017 due to continual back problems.
“At that time, I was done,” Woods said. “I didn’t know what I was going to be doing. I had no golf in my future at that time. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t sit.”
The 14-time major champion finished joint-sixth at the Open Championship in July before coming second in the PGA Championship earlier this month.
Mickelson told ESPN: “It’s an opportunity for us to bring golf to the masses in prime time during a period where we don’t have much going on in the world of golf.
“It’s a way to show a side you don’t normally see by having us mic’d up to hear some of the interaction between us.”
