Durban – The Sharks have begun their preparation for next year’s Super Rugby without some of their key players – including captain Louis Schreuder.
The Durban-based franchise will kick off their Super Rugby campaign against the Bulls on Friday, January 31 at Kings Park.
Kick-off is at 19:10.
Apart from the players who are with the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, Sharks coach Sean Everitt was missing some familiar faces, but officially welcomed two of the nine new signings by the Sharks.
Schreuder is currently playing for France’s Toulon in the Top 14 league while Juan Schoeman turned out for the Southern Kings in the PRO14 over the weekend.
“Juan is on loan with the Kings and he will be back for Super Rugby. Louis Schreuder is on loan to Toulon as well,” said Sharks communications manager Novashni Chetty.
“Apart from the Springbok guys, those are the other players who are not with the team, but they are coming back in January.”
While the majority of the new signings are expected at the beginning of next month, wing Madosh Tambwe and loose forward James Venter – both signed from the Lions – were part of the early season preparations.
Ox Nche, Jordan Sesink-Clee, Michael Kumbirai, Henco Venter, Jordan Chait and Sikhumbuzo Notshe will all join on November 1, while Werner Kok arrives in August next year.
