Cape Town – Respected South African football agent Rob Moore has revealed Percy Tau knew he would be loaned out after signing for Brighton in the English Premier League.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star made the move to the EPL side in the previous transfer window, but was immediately loaned out to Belgium second tier side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Work permit rules in the UK meant it was virtually impossible for Tau to play for the Seagulls, though he is now seeing plenty of action for Les Unionistes.

Nonetheless, Moore has explained that after speaking to Tau’s representative, Mmatsatsi Sefalafala, it became clear the forward knew he would be loaned out.

He told Soccer Laduma: “According to what his agent (Mmatsatsi Sefalafala) told me, he 100% knew that and she was clear to me that she knew he would be going out on loan. That was clear as day.

“I mentioned to Brighton that if he was to go on loan, my inclination, if I was his agent, would be to try and get him out to the best level club to develop him ahead of a possible return to the Premier League.

“Me and Lance Davids (my colleague) made some enquiries, and we had both Standard Liege (Belgium) and Utrecht (Netherlands), who wanted to take him on loan.

“Utrecht are a solid club in Holland, and Standard are in the final stages of qualification for European football this season. If he plays regular football in European competition, then it can help him get points towards his work permit that could’ve maybe helped him play in England in the future.

“This is all my personal opinion, of course. It’s all up to the player and his agent.”
