Mabokgwane came in as a late replacement for Mpontshane after the latter pulled his calf muscle during the pre-game warm up.

The Bucs took the lead in the 14th minute through Augustine Mulenga only to drop two points after Usuthu equalised through Emiliano Tade in the 49th.

Sredojevic hinted in his post-game interview with SuperSport that he was unhappy with the Sea Robbers’ finishing, but paid tribute to Mabokgwane for his performance at the other end.

“When one guy has the sunset, one has sunrise,” said ‘Micho’.

“The situation came that Mpontshane got injured. Jackson came in and he had a stunning performance in all aspects – communication with the team, covering the space, shot-stopping was wonderful, and also ball delivery as player number 11 helping us from build-up from behind.

“I think being without Mpontshane, you recognise [the power of a team] when you put someone in and he delivers, and I believe that he (Mabokgwane) has delivered today.”

Pirates’ next Absa Premiership match will be the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs on October 27.
