Cape Town – Ajax Cape Town owner Ari Efstathiou has confirmed that coach Muhsin Ertugral will remain with the Urban Warriors in the National First Division in 2018/19.
Ajax recently gave up their appeal against the points deduction handed to the club for fielding the ineligible Tendai Ndoro. The Zimbabwe striker broke FIFA rules for having played for three sides in one campaign.
Nonetheless, with a vast number of players making their exit as the team attempt to lower the wage bill, Efstathiou says Ertugral will remain in charge as Ajax try to win instant promotion back to the top flight.
He told the Sowetan: “Muhsin is staying, he’s committed. It’s very important for us because, obviously he came midway through the campaign, in the second part of the season, and to show continuity is important for us.
“You can imagine that financially, it is quite a strain for us but we think it is important if our intentions are to immediately get back up to the (top-flight).
“We have to keep the head intact and Muhsin has committed himself to the club for this year.”
The experienced Turkish-born coach took control just before Christmas from Stanley Menzo, however, ultimately was unable to help the team escape the dreaded drop.
