| Baxter wants young coach for Bafana set-up

Cape Town – Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has revealed that he still intends on bringing in a young coach to the national team set-up.

According to the KickOff website, the 65-year-old has been trying for months to have a secured technical team since his return to the Bafana Bafana fold.

However, due to the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) budget constraints, the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor had to call upon Amajimbos (SA under-17) coach Molefi Ntseki, who will return for Bafana Bafana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Seychelles.

Other than Ntseki, Baxter has also previously relied on former Bafana Bafana and Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune as an assistant.

Last month, Baxter handed his son, Lee, a call up to the squad following Andre Arendse’s withdrawal from the squad due to family commitments.

But the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper returns to the dugout next week alongside Ntseki and physical coach Josh Smith.

Meanwhile, Baxter also failed in his attempt to lure Rhulani Mokwena from Orlando Pirates with a role in the technical team earlier this year in hopes of having a younger coach in midst of the senior national set-up.

Following the announcement of his 24-man squad on Monday, Baxter admits that their intention of bringing in a younger coach is for various reasons as they continue their search for a suitable candidate.

“We may try to look at – and we will inform you at a later date – bringing in a younger, more up-and-coming coach to be acquainted with Bafana, rather than bringing in a permanent member of staff,” Baxter said.

“We’ve had this idea before, we’ve tried to do it. We’ve not done it for various reasons, and we will possibly try and do it now, but we will get back to you about that.”

Bafana welcome Seychelles to the FNB Stadium on October 13 before squaring off in a return leg three days later at the Stade Linite.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
