Oscar De La Hoya says he forgives Dana White for insults – ‘He might be having issues, problems in his life’

Oscar De La Hoya has said he will forgive Dana White and hopes to put their feud to bed.

The Golden Boy boxing promoter and UFC president have been exchanging insults through the media for several years now, stemming from the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight.

In 2017, when rumours of UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s move into boxing became well known, it is safe to say it irked plenty of the sport’s purists.

While some simply accepted the bout for what it was, De La Hoya became incensed at the Irishman and the UFC, prompting him to write a lengthy Facebook post about the possible recriminations of the spectacle.

Having heralded what had been an excellent year for boxing after fights featuring Anthony Joshua, Canelo and Keith Thurman, De La Hoya urged fans to ‘shut the circus down’ and not ‘pay to see a joke of a fight’.

This in turn upset White, who tweeted: “WTF?!? Is this guy snorting coke and drinking booze again??!?”

Three years later and the war of words is still ongoing.

Most recently, De La Hoya announced his plans to make a boxing comeback aged 47.

White responded: “Cocaine isn’t cheap. It’s expensive. You’ve gotta make money.”

Now, when asked about White on Tuesday night, De La Hoya said: “Dana White? Come on, what am I gonna say about Dana White?

“I just, you know what, I forgive the guy, whatever he says.

“He might be having issues, problems in his life, he might be too stressed, so I understand.

“But I’m a very forgiving guy so whatever has been said— Maybe I had stuff in my life as well and I said stuff about him.

“So, you know, hopefully we can just crush it once and for all and just move on.

“He sticks to MMA and I stick to boxing.”
