Former Springbok Sevens assistant coach and Southern Kings backline coach Vuyo Zangqa is set for a coaching stint in Russia.
Zangqa recently lost his job when the Kings were liquidated but has been thrown a lifeline by the Narvskaya Zastava club in St Petersburg.
The former Blitzboks speedster will be the head of the club’s sevens programme and also assist in the 15-man game.
“After the Kings were liquidated, I hoped that someone would appoint me – based on my experience,” Zangqa told Rapport newspaper. “I talked to one or two (South African) provinces, but nothing came of it.
“I received a call from a friend from Russia. He told me they had heard I was available and that they were looking for a sevens coach. After a few Zoom meetings, they offered me a contract.”
Zangqa has experience coaching abroad, having spent time as assistant coach of Kenya’s Sevens outfit and head coach of the German Sevens side.
