Ex-Real Madrid player Santiago Solari to take over from under pressure Julen Lopetegui as manager – reports

The Bernabeu hierarchy appear to have run out of patience with Lopetegui after Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat at home to Levante on Saturday

Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly “close” to being dismissed from his post.

And it is understood B team boss Santiago Solari will be hired as Lopetegui’s replacement.

According to Sky Sources, the LaLiga giants will end Lopetegui’s tenure at the Bernabeu after just nine games of the league season.

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was heavily linked with the position but Spanish newspaper Marca has also reported that Solari is primed for the job.

Lopetegui became Los Blancos boss in the summer after being sacked as manager of the Spain national team two days before the start of their World Cup campaign.

Real set an unwanted goalscoring drought record of not finding the net in over 481 minutes against Levante on Saturday. They got a goal later in the game but still lost 2-1.

The club’s hierarchy will be keen to act quickly as Real are in action in the Champions League on Tuesday night against Viktoria Plzen before facing Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season on Sunday.

However, they are handed the boost of knowing Barca’s star man Lionel Messi will not feature at the Nou Camp after suffering a bone fracture to his elbow during their victory over Sevilla this weekend.
