The American fights Tyson Fury on 1 December and is known for his heavy hitting
When Deontay Wilder hits you, it hurts – just ask the THREE pad men who have required surgery.
The American heavyweight’s head coach, Jay Deas, says the boxer’s explosive power – he has knocked 39 of his 40 opponents out – also leaves his own team needing treatment.
Deas says he is one of Team Wilder’s members who has needed a trip to an Alabama hospital after a session on the pads with the WBC champion.
“I’ve had hernia surgery where he hit me just under the body protector, on my side,” he told The Sun.
“I noticed it hurt but I just kept working away. But it kept hurting and hurting and hurting.
“So finally I went to the doctor and he said ‘you need hernia surgery!’ I was like ‘what!?’
“He also separated Mark Breland’s shoulder when Mark was doing the mitts and he dislocated coach Cuz’s thumb.
“We are the only team who have three mitt men.”
The Bronze Bomber has vowed to add to his impressive knockout record when he takes on Britain’s Tyson Fury at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on 1 December.
Wilder’s punching power recently landed him in trouble when he floored a mascot during a television appearance.
