Despite already being eliminated from the tournament at the semi-final stage, Eubank Jr is the reserve who will step into the final if Groves or Smith cannot take part.

George Groves defeated Chris Eubank Jr by unanimous decision back in February to claim his place in the final.

The defeat was Eubank Jr’s second of his career and he will now look to rebuild once again.

“I have been training hard in Vegas, and I am looking be a part of the event in Jeddah,” he said.

“I am preparing for any scenario that may present itself.”

His opponent, McDonagh, has a record of 16-4 fighting between middleweight and light-heavyweight.

“I’m surprised he did not retire after he embarrassed himself against Groves,” said McDonagh.

“Eubank is a fit man but he does not know how to fight hard, I’m a fighting man from a fighting family of generations of fighters. I am going to knock him out!”

George Groves v Callum Smith (Ft Chris Eubank Jr v JJ McDonagh) will be live on talkSPORT, September 28.
