AJ v Povetkin seems likely

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn claims a deal for AJ to face his WBA mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin next is now “pretty much in place.”
The news comes as a disappointment to the vast majority of fans who would have preferred to see Joshua fight WBC champion Deontay Wilder instead.
When asked about the latest in negotiations for the Wilder fight, Hearn told FightHype: “We’re talking most days, my Dad met Shelly [Finkel – Wilder’s manager] on Friday. We’re all trying.
“We’ve got a limited time scale in that Povetkin is next, we pretty much have a deal in place with Povetkin to move forward.
“I have a good relationship with World of Boxing [Povetkin’s promoters] and at the moment it looks like we’re fighting Alexander Povetkin, but that could change.”
Joshua’s promoter quickly reassured fans that the Deontay Wilder fight WILL happen, stating that it could still be next or (seemingly more likely) in December/February.
“I think the two options are: We sign for Wilder now, to fight him next, or we sign for Wilder now, but fight him after Povetkin,” explained Hearn.
“The fans need to know that they’re getting the fight, it’s just a case of whether it’s September/October or December/February.”
